Being Present/The Power of the Present

This feels so good!

The basic premise of everything I’ve read about the “Present” is that it’s all there is.  Or rather, ALL THERE IS.  To get a little deep, everything that has ever happened to you or will happen to you is all happening right now, in this very moment.

Experience is like those receipts in the deli where they put the completed orders on the spire.  Time is vertical, not horizontal as we commonly believe.

But this deep-ness (I know, I know, I could have used “depth”) didn’t actually come from this Cleanse.  It comes from a book I am reading simultaneously (Conversations with God, Book 2), which is blowing my mind.

But for me, they both tie in and really, they’re the same thing.

When I was in the ninth grade, my  Biology teacher taught me how to really listen to people by being present in the conversation.  By looking at the person, repeating back for understanding, not interrupting just to get your next point across, taking notes if it was a lecture.  Years later, my management textbook called that “active listening.”  Either way, this was the start of me actively being present in a conversation.

I used to keep a very chaotic pace of life, but more recently, I am searching to figure out how I can work smarter and slow things down, focus on one task at a time and give it my full attention.

And I try to do that with conversations too.  I try to stop what I am doing to give the other person my full attention and really Listen to them, with all of my senses focused on them.

This is all me off on a tanget, though, because this is not really what the book was talking about.  Really, it focused on your awareness of the present moment and suggests that once an hour, you take five minutes and notice what is in your present moment(s).  Also a great exercise.

For me it was very detailed (I have an incredible knack for details) and went down to how my clothes felt against my skin, what sensation my fingers had running themselves over my skin or my clothes.

But this does feel good.  And I feel good when I am fully present for whatever I am doing and wherever I am.

So: Today I am fully Present.
