This has been like a climb to the top of a very enlightening mountain, and now I am on my way back down, about to continue on my way, yet profoundly changed.
On this, Day 20 of 21, we “talked” about the Light of Compassion (This is still me talking to myself).
I got the insight this morning, that one of my mentees is a pure and simple reflection of me. The exact thing he does that annoys me sometimes, I do to others. Compassion.
In the book, Debbie Ford says:
Compassion is the key to living outside the confines of the ego’s limitations and having an expanded perception of reality. Compassion doesn’t say, “What can the world do for me?” but rather, “How can I serve the world?” Compassion is the feeling you access when looking at the world through the eyes of the divine heart. It fears nothing, because it knows it is everything . . . Compassion knows that the gravitational pull of your history is so strong that it often wins the war between the light and the dark. The divine heart knows that you didn’t decide at three years old to be a wife beater, an abusive mother, a bullying neighbor, or a mediocre couch potato.
So when [Compassion] is activated in your awareness, you are finally free to stop taking everything so personally. You’re able to step out of the perspective you are so accustomed to–the myopic view of your individual self–and instead reach to the heavens and look through the heart of God. What an astonishing view . . . and what a profound relief.
And isn’t this all “Right?” It feels like it is part of my Truth. The activity for today asked me to take a look at three pivotal or life changing experiences, then to view them through my eyes, someone else who was involved and then through the Eyes of Divinity. What a perspective shift this was. All of a sudden my “righteous indignation” at something, becomes a mere growing and learning and evolving moment in the eyes of the Divine.
Today I use Compassion as my COMPASS. (Ha! Isn’t that clever!? lol)
