Today is all about Reverence, mostly for my own body.
This was a fairly easy one for me today, although I did admit outloud some of the things that I do when I’m not listening to my body.
However, it was fairly easy because I have a pretty good self-image. I don’t think I’m too fat or skinny or tall or short or anything like that. I’m not a big makeup wearer and in general I don’t think there are a lot of things that need to be “fixed.” In fact, I like my body!
The things I do that involve me not listening to my body when it is talking are mostly about taking in too many sweets and not enough vegetables and not doing enough cardio exercise!
And I tend to be a workaholic, so I sometimes do things when I am exhausted!
Those are more mental than physical, though they all have physical effects.
I used to work at Curves, the women’s fitness facility, and once I got the spiel down, I modified it so it fit my natural way of talking. Part of that spiel is taking a woman’ BMI, body mass indicator, which says, “compared to your frame, you have this much mass (vs muscle) weight.” I would tell my ladies that this was just a guideline and that they ultimately knew what was healthy for them and what was not.
And I said this because I knew that according to all those charts, I would always come up “overweight”, but for my frame, If I looked as their charts suggested, I would be anorexic and that would be an unhealthy body for me–it would be too small. This assessment comes from me knowing my body and what is healthy for it.
So today’s lesson is probably really impactful for someone who thinks their entire body needs to be fixed or altered in some way. For me, though, it was by far my easiest day! And I think that is a good thing!
“I cherish my body as a sacred temple of the Divine.”
