Day 8: The Power of Liberation!
I was wholly unprepared for today’s lesson! Liberation is fine and good as a concept, but today we put our intentions where our mouth is and had a ceremony for truly liberating ourselves from all the gunk in our past; from all the negative images and guilt and thought patterns and beliefs that we were holding onto.
I read that this morning and immediately went into resistant and defensive mode. The idea of letting them go so suddenly, caught me off guard. I wasn’t prepared for this letting go ceremony that I was to perform.
But guess what!? I did it anyway. I allowed myself to release all this junk and took it outside to the trash, then literally washed it off of me in the shower.
This day asks you to write a letter to the physical people and situations that you have been senselessly holding onto (if you have argument for the word “senseless”, I guarantee you are still holding onto things. If you have reached this day in the Cleanse, you may need to repeat it to make sure you get all the gunk out!). It asks you to find physical things, like shoes or clothes or even cookies which represent an addiction to sugar or carbs, that no longer fit you or no longer fit the image of yourself that you would like to portray. And for the intangibles, such as fear or guilt, the Cleanse asks you to write them down on little slips of paper.
After all of this is done, you release these things one-by-one through the ceremony outlined in the book or one that you come up with yourself.
The suggestion is to take the day to celebrate yourself–buy some flowers, collect your favorite music for the ceremony. Then take all this stuff and symbolically release it’s hold on you as you let it go and allow the cords of attachment to metaphorically be cut.
For me, I threw out my old pair of sneakers (ahem, that is tennis shoes or gym shoes, for those of you elsewhere) that I loved; I released my addiction to sugar and sweets and carbs, and my fear of not moving forward.
For me, one of the strongest patterns I have created is self-sabotage. An acquaintance pointed out to me that by moving around so much, I have probably already missed my first million. She is probably correct, but I also know that I want it all at once! But I sabotage myself in a few ways: 1-not letting go of things that I hold on strictly for comfort’s sake, like worn-out, beat up shoes! But also things like (2)the papers that clutter my space regularly and (3) thoughts and people that/who no longer serve me.
If my environment is cluttered, how can I ever expect to have a clear space to think clearly!
But this is just me holding so tightly to the things that are already familiar, that I forget that I have to let them go in order for the new (and better) things to come into my existence! This is true both physically and metaphysically. If the useless thoughts are still in my being because I am comfortable, there is no room for new thoughts that serve me better! I can’t hold a bowling ball and eat a bowl of soup at the same time–I have to let one of them go.
And sometimes, like that bowling ball, our burdens and thoughts can be heavy and weigh us down. And they have the potential to be dangerous if they get out of control! But until we let them go, until we release that symbolic heavy bowling ball, we can’t enjoy the soup. That is, we can’t enjoy the nourishment for our soul!
I use this example somewhat comically (and I didn’t actually know where I was going with it when I started it!
), but it does represent real aspects of my life. All this time I’ve been carrying around a bowling ball when what I really needed was the bowl of soup sitting right in front of me! I can’t enjoy the soup until I release the bowling ball from my grasp!
And in doing so, I find my connection to the Divinity and can claim with absolute certainty that I am one with the Divine!
So today, I AM FREE TO BE DIVINE!

Hope you gave the cookies to someone else! Hope the bowling ball didn’t hurt when you dropped it!

bowling balls take up too much space! Get rid of alll of them! ‘AND IM FREEEEEE, FREE FALLING. ‘
well hopefully, not free falling because you threw the bowling ball off the roof and your fingers did not get stuck in the holes! Right?? Right. Nevertheless a lot less baggage to carry. Go ahead Charlene!
