Being Still and Learning to Listen

Stillness!

Breathe Easy!

Inhale.

Exhale!

Silence!

“Self-ness!”

Deep Breathing!

In our technology driven society (so-called Western Society, that is), we hardly ever take the time to listen to the stillness anymore.

As our world has moved from primarily agricultural to the age of industry, machines and technology, we have lost much of our connection with our surroundings, including the Earth.

Sometimes we just need to reconnect, not to our cell phones or mp3 players, but to the Earth and our surroundings!

Not too long ago I was riding along, headed to a job interview waaaayyyy outside the city where I live. As I was traveling, I saw this winding road. Despite that I was headed somewhere else, I really wanted to follow that road.

My employment “sensibilities”, took over however, and I continued going to that interview.

But the thing is, I will always want to take that winding road that I can’t quite see the end of. That’s part of who I am! But I only know this, because at some point, I have stopped to listen to myself.

Part of finding your direction is taking your cues from the things in your surroundings.

I LOOOOOOOOOVVVVVVEEEEEEE music. But even in listening to it, every so often, I need to turn it off just to hear my Self.

Sometimes I need to stop distracting myself with the music and start making my OWN music.

And sometimes this is hard.

Finding your own direction (not the directions others want you to move in) means playing full-out—giving 100% every time.

Sometimes it’s crazy-scary to quiet all the chatter we constantly surround ourselves with just to listen to our selves! Believe me, I Know from first-hand experience!

And I definitely get scared sometimes!

Deep inside, we really know what good moves for us are. Most of ignore these things for more “practical” ideas that fit with the mainstream all around us.

What would happen if we started listening to these things?

For me, it’s about taking action. One of the scariest things for me is moving forward. And this almost always boils down to me being afraid that once I finish this, I won’t have anything left to do.

Like most, FEARS, this is not really a rational thought, yet there it is, out on the table for all to see. (That’s not one of my strengths either, so it was quite challenging to put my fears on the table like that—but I think I’ll leave it.)

Rational or not, in order to overcome it, I have to take action in a different direction from it. If everything I am doing is moving me toward the same things I have always done (avoided taking critical actions to propel me forward), then perhaps it’s time I find a new direction.

And so it is with you too!

Do You Love Your Life Now!? I Do!! (Because I am learning to move in different directions!)

Energy, Chakras and Auras, Oh My!

I have a friend who is an “energy reader.” He is more “tuned-in” to other people’s energy than most. He definitely has good energy and is a good hugger. In fact, I love hugging him to exchange this energy. Sometimes we will stay in an embrace for much longer than the social norm, just because we are replenishing each other’s energy supply.

Whew, now that I’ve gotten that confession off my chest, let me go back and explain some of the things I said! That was certainly a mouthful, especially if you’ve never looked at the world as being filled with energy before!

But it is!

Every single thing in the Universe is made from energy. Though energies are different, have different vibrations, they all have the same basic characteristics!

In the human body, we have energy centers, called chakras that act as a sort of referee to the energy in our bodies. These chakras are meridians, or entry (and exit) points to the energy that our bodies receive and give out.

Have you heard of that popular book/movie, The Secret by Rhonda Byrne, that talks about the Law of Attraction? Well, this information is also true and also has to do with energy.

The Law of Attraction states that we get what we think about; like attracts like. This happens because the more thought we put into something, the stronger we are vibrating at that frequency. The stronger a signal goes out, the stronger it will come back. (Note here, signals we send out come back multiplied)

Think about this like a radio frequency. Let’s say the station you want is at frequency 106.3. If you are there on the dot, the sound is strong and clear. This represents things that you put a lot of thought into—the things that show up in your life, you are playing that station. The further away you are from that frequency, the less clear it comes in. The further away you are from thinking or feeling something, the less clear the frequency and the less it shows up in your life. Does that make sense?

In the course of our daily lives, most of us spend time doing activities that deplete our energy. In the alternative healing world, this can be seen through your aura, or energy field around your body.

We all have this energy field, this aura, surrounding our bodies. If it is big and vibrant, we have a good balance of energy. If it is dull and small, staying very close to our bodies, we are probably very imbalanced. This is what causes sickness and dis-ease. (Auras have colors associated with them that generally correspond to the rainbow. Some people have a gift for seeing these auras in color.)

When our energy is low, we are depleted of the natural energy we all possess. Sometimes this happens because other people drain our energy, such as when we are being intimidated or belittled. (See The Celestine Prophecy by James Redfield for more about this topic). This is when we need energy from outside ourselves to boost us back up! This is why I can hug my friend for so long, because we are both filling up our energetic gas tank. Incidentally, we could also get this energy by hugging a tree—no, really!

There is an infinite supply of this energy and therefore enough for everyone, without anyone ever being depleted. But most people don’t realize this.

Which is why we allow (and it is an allowing) others to deplete our energy field. There are ways to safeguard against this sort of energy depletion, but perhaps we’ll save that for another article.

The point is most of us Do get depleted and need ways to re –energize. I hug my friend and he hugs me back. We both know, subconsciously at least, that because of this infinite supply, when we put our energies together, it is somehow greater than if we were hugging ourselves—energetically speaking, we fill each other back up!

So I will continue to enjoy his hugs!

Do You Love your Life Now!? I Do! (Because I hug people with good energy!)

At some point, we all get a little lost and confused! Even those of us who feel like we have a pretty good grasp of the way things are going get shaken up a little bit every now and again. The key is not that it happens, but how do you deal with it when it does.
