Grateful After Thanksgiving!

As I am sitting here, thinking about the whole Thanksgiving thing (yes, it was two days ago), I always wonder why people choose the last six weeks of the year to be so thankful for everything in their lives?

Be that as it may, I am thinking about all the things I am thankful/Grateful for, and some things that have cropped up actually surprised me:

I reconnected with one of my closest friends as she visited my side of the world. I thought about the people I love and their role in my life now. Some of them are here full strength, while others are more in the background right now.

I usually do this on my birthday, list out how my life has changed in the past year and reflect on it for a little while, but I am doing it now too!

Figuring out what being Grateful means to me!

I am finding that I am grateful for small things, abundantly grateful for them in fact. And things that, at the time, I would have classified as “negative experiences.” Now I see that they were necessary stepping stones that helped me become the woman I am today.

Was that really so negative? Perhaps not.

As I look around, my goodness, what a wonderful life I live. I don’t mean in the millions of dollars, huge mansions, and more cars than I can count type of way. As of this writing, that is not the picture of my lifestyle.

I mean in the unfailing support of my closest friends; the hardwood floors in my house (which I love), the good food in my belly, the ability to walk and sing and dance and live!

All of the people who have come and gone in my life—they have all touched me in some way. What a beautiful thing!

Grateful is not so much about the things you have outside your body—yes, those are important, but what about the things you have inside!? These are even more important.

And despite what many people think, Happiness, Contentedness, Gratefulness are things that come from the inside and shine outward, not from the shiny car outside.

And more than that, they don’t just happen in the five weeks between Thanksgiving and Christmas. Gratefulness is something that happens every day, every moment even, if you choose to look at it.

Make the choice to Be. Grateful. Every. Day.
