2) Oh, The People We Meet!

How did you meet you best friend or spouse? We you already inseparable from the womb, coming into this world already intuitively Knowing each other? Or was it a “random” happenstance-you both being in the same place at the same time?
Maybe your car broke down and the handsome stranger who fixed it also offered to take you to dinner (okay, okay, I read too many books! 
) Or maybe it was in the grocery store where you and your best friend first struck up conversation reaching over the artichokes.
Just think about that for a second, how did you meet the people who are important in your life?
I met my best friend because of a summer reading book going into the eighth grade. Yet we had experienced the same summer camp the year before and we each thought the other was kind of bratty! The book was The Pigman, and I needed to talk to someone who might have read it (I knew most of my “friends” hadn’t). I gingerly dialed her number and asked to speak to her, being careful to pronounce her name correctly, lest I offend the parents who gave it to her.
She had read the book and when the eighth grade started a few weeks later, we ended up in the same advisory and were inseparable from that point on!
Another good friend took a chance on me when we were taking the same summer class in college.
For me, it takes four encounters. Most of the people in my life are transient, just passing through on their own individual Journeys. With the majority of them, we interact 3 times or less! And people who make it to that coveted fourth encounter, usually stay around for awhile, helping to weave the fabric of my life (of course that’s a two way street!) and we become connected, somehow intertwined!
But I pay attention to stuff like this. Both threes and fours are “my numbers.” In year three, things start to look up and in year 4 they really take off! This has happened precisely this way for the last four 4-year cycles!
And the people who have stayed around past that 3-year threshold are likely not going anywhere, at least not in the foreseeable future!
This is not something I take lightly-as new people enter and exit my life, I take note (usually passive note until the third time) of how many encounters we actually have. And true to form, those who make it past 3 are usually playing for keeps!
Pay attention to the people in your surroundings-they say a lot about how you view yourself and the world. And Remember This: There Are NO Coincidences! Love your People Well! Weave beautiful patterns with them!
