The New Woman Leader: Expectations and Support in the 21st Century!
By Charlene M Brown
Cabrini College in Radnor, PA, hosted the 1st Annual Women’s Leadership Conference on October 10th, 2009. This FREE Conference brought together business women from all different backgrounds in an uplifting and supportive environment!
I attended and, to my great delight, enjoyed every single session!
We got to hear women from all different business backgrounds share their experiences and offer guidance!
From the welcome by Christine Lysionek, Ph.D. (VP of Student Development at Cabrini) to the closing by Pepper Krach (Principal and Executive VP of M.F. Irvine Corporate Solutions), we had a dynamic array of women from all over the Delaware Valley.
Laura Bedrossian (Family Consultant, The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia) opened our morning by telling us the amazing story of her son Teddy and her courageous journey in raising a child with a delicate balance of special needs. Her story touched all of us and showed us a compassion many of us had never known. Yet she did this with joy.
Up next was our first panel discussion with Shannon Cassidy (Founder and Executive Director of bridge between, inc.), Cheryl Kuchler (Founder and Managing Principal of CEO Think Tank) and Claudia Timbo (President of Corporate Call Center). These ladies each had the opportunity to talk about “What They Bring to the Table” and then opened up the floor for Q & A. Each woman surprised me in the changes she made to make herself relevant to her specific niche. They stressed having and following a plan of action and being centered in their individual faiths.
During lunch, our keynote speaker, Lori Wilson (host of The 10! Show, on our local NBC Affiliate) gave us more pearls of wisdom as she shared her story of what it takes to be a reporter and news anchor. Her tale of determination and knowing when to let go and move on taught us about prioritizing our values in our lives and being flexible enough to change. She also shared a great positive attitude when dealing with others.
Then we were graced by the amazing presences of Barbara Collins, Ed.D. (Founder of Positive Trends, Inc.), Nicola S. Thompson (Director of Social Services for Golden Living Centers), and Delores Winston (Proprietor of Dolly’s Catering Services), who discussed “Changing Opportunities: Rethinking, Reordering and Reprioritizing!” These ladies gave great words of inspiration about putting yourself first and constantly visualizing your dreams and taking the necessary action to make them a reality. They encouraged us to constantly push past the fear!
And finally, we were impressed upon by the fantastic-ness of Michelle McAllister (Author of 22 Life Principles for the Ultimate Woman) who, believe it or not, gave us even more gems of wisdom. She encouraged us to take action steps everyday to reach our goals and follow the dreams of our hearts. She greeted everyone with a hug and short conversation at her book signing following the conference. If you haven’t heard of Michelle and her book, you will!
What I love about women is their constant encouragement and their easy sense of laughter. There were no shortages of either at this conference!
The day was full without being overstuffed. There was enough time to connect with other women through meaningful conversations. Lunch was good. Dessert was good (always important to me!
. The speakers were excellent! And the positive energy was a’flowin’!
This was the first of what will hopefully be many awesome, dynamic Women’s Conferences for Cabrini College! I’m already gearing up for next year’s conference!
Do You Love Your Life Now!? I Do (because I am enriched by the dynamism of other women with positive spirits!)!
